Sources of New 2005 CPR Instruction Guidelines
We are frequently asked, 'Does your program meet the American Red Cross® standards?'
Contrary to what many believe the American Red Cross® does not set the CPR
guidelines. The Red Cross itself is required to adhere to the same standards published by nationally recognized authorities that we
adhere to. All of our MEDIC FIRST AID®, Emergency Care & Safety Institute®
(ECSI), American Heart Association®, American Safety & Health
Institute® (ASHI), and other programs follow the 2005 CPR guideline standards set by the following authorities:
- ILCOR: 2005 International Consensus on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care Science with
Treatment Recommendations, International Liason Committee on Resuscitation, Resuscitation, Nov/Dec 2005, Vol. 67, Nos. 2-3
- 2005 American Heart Association Guidelines for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care; 2005; Circulation; 112
(suppl IV).
- National Standard Curriculum for Bystander Care, 1992. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, U.S. Department of
Transportation.
- ASTM Standard F 2171-02: Defining the Performance of First Aid Providers in Occupational Settings; 2002; ASTM
International.
